Almost a month ago I posted a request asking folks to send musical birthday cards for Rachel’s 15th birthday.  Our family has experienced the power of social media and the internet.  Last fall I posted a “Go Fund Me” seeking donations to help me purchase a wheelchair van as Batten Disease is taking Rachel’s ability to walk.  I was able to buy “Cartman” the low mileage wheelchair van at a very low price within a few weeks.  People are incredibly generous and kind.

Those close to me know that I hate asking for help but the van has been very helpful when taking Rachel places.  I hate that she needs it but I’m glad to have the option to use it.  I still stuff her in my jeep but I have a pinched nerve in my back and will soon give in to her disease and solely drive the van when taking her places.  I still can’t believe she has Juvenile batten Disease.

The request for cards was extremely successful.  Rachel received cards from all over the world: America, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia.  Most of them were musical and / or tactile.  A card from China was made out of wood with pressed flowers on the front.  So cool.  She was thrilled to have us read them to her and listen to the songs.

Thank you so much for taking the time to send Rachel a card for her 15 birthday.  It means the world to me and Rachel’s birthday was extra special.

Life is short.  <3
